Lutein is a carotenoid with a potent antioxidant activity. It is a key component of the macula which is yellow in color. In fact, the yellow color of the macula is because of high concentration of the carotenoids lutein, zeaxanthin, and mesozeaxanthin. Lutein protects the eyes from oxidative damages.
Natural Sources:
Luetin is found in kale, dandelion, turnip greens, spinach, Swiss chard, collard greens, watercress, peas, leeks, romaine lettuce, zucchini, Brussels sprouts, corn, carrots, persimmon, and egg yolks.
