Also known as dyspepsia, indigestion is a condition characterized by feeling full, abdominal
pain or discomfort, heart burn, stomach upset, bloating, and gas. The most common causes of indigestion are gastrointestinal reflux disease (GERD) and functional dyspepsia.
Nearly 20 – 30 % of people will experience indigestion at least 6 times per year.
Functional Dyspepsia is defined as three months or more of bothersome feeling full after a meal, early satiety, abdominal pain and heart burn for at least 6 months in the absence of any organic causes. About 60% of people with indigestion have functional dyspepsia.
