Phytonutrients found in higher amounts and their health benefits: cantaloupe is rich in alpha-carotene, beta-carotenes, lutein, cryptoxanthin, zeaxanthin, polyphenols, luteolin, ferulic acid, caffeic acid, cucurbitacin B and cucurbitacin E.
Beta-carotenes support healthy eyes, promote vision, and help protect against lung cancer. Cucurbitacin E has anti-cancer activity. Also the seeds of cantaloupe contain alpha-linoleic acid (ALA), which is a type of Omega-3 fatty acid.
